The Nunavut Legislative Assembly's Committee of the Whole is on track to complete its department by department budget considerations on March 16, according to the Clerk of the Assembly, John Quirke. Committee of the Whole, which consists of all Nunavut MLAs, has been examining the 2016-17 Main Estimates since shortly after the winter session began on Feb. 24. The only departments remaining are culture and heritage, justice and the legislative assembly. All other departments have been completed except for environment, which has been deferred. The long winter sitting of the 4th Assembly is set to wrap up today, March 16. MLAs will return to Iqaluit in June for the shorter spring sitting, scheduled for June 1 to June 8.
