Throat Song, by Miranda de Pencier and Stacey Aglok MacDonald, picked up a Canadian Screen Award for best live action short drama at a March 3 ceremony in Toronto. The 17-minute film, about a young Inuk woman, who is caught in an abusive relationship was filmed in and around Iqaluit and starred Ippiksaut Friesen of Rankin Inlet. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and since then has travelled to many other film festivals. Throat Song was funded partly by Nunavut Film, the Kitikmeot Economic Development Corp. and the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Culture and Heritage. (FILE PHOTO)
