The Donation of Food Act, a new law protecting people and companies from being sued over food that is donated to charity, was passed into law March 19. “I want to congratulate and thank MLA Ron Elliott for bringing this Act forward as a private members bill,” said Keith Peterson, Nunavut's minister of health and social services. The act received unanimous support from MLAs. To accompany the new legislation, the health department has created a donated food fact sheet for proper food handling, which will be available at local health centres and online.
