Photo: Nunavut government workers press their case

Unionized workers at the Government of Nunavut, represented by the Nunavut Employees Union and the Public Service Alliance of Canada, holding a noon-hour rally Feb. 20 behind the Nunavut legislature in Iqaluit. The GN is offering no wage increase in the first year of a new contract, and one per cent increases in each of the next three years. The union seeks 5 per cent wage increases in each of three years, and changes to a long list of non-monetary items in its collective agreement with the GN, which expired in September 2010. The two sides spent all weekend at talks inside the Nova Inn with mediator Vince Ready, but have been unable to break the impasse. (PHOTO BY JIM BELL)
