Nunavut Premier Peter Taptuna, centre, is pictured here visiting the site of Baffinland’s Mary River iron ore project this past weekend, along with his new principal secretary Ed Picco, right and a Baffinland employee. The Nunavut Impact Review Board has approved Baffinland Iron Mines’ early revenue phase proposal, which could see up to 4.2 million tonnes of iron ore per year shipped from Mary River via Milne Inlet to markets in Europe. Taptuna also stopped in Pond Inlet to present the community the Council of the Federation Water Stewardship Award for the community’s work monitoring its fresh water quality.
