Photo: Nunavut’s first Inuk doctor featured in latest Nipiit

Donna May Kimmaliardjuk, who just finished medical school and is currently working on a residency at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, is featured on the cover of the National Inuit Youth Council’s latest Nipiit magazine. Kimmaliardjuk, whose family comes from Chesterfield Inlet, is hoping to become a cardiac surgeon by 2020. “I feel happy, and I must admit, proud, but also humbled and honoured to be Nunavut’s first Inuk doctor,” she writes in Nipiit. “My advice for youth is to find and do something in life that makes you happy.” Read more about Kimmaliardjuk, and other inspiring young Inuit, at http://tinyurl.com/zd25fea.
