Hunter Tootoo, Nunavut MP and minister of fisheries and oceans, gives a speech April 4 at Iqaluit’s Frobisher Inn before an audience of delegates attending the 19th Nunavut Mining Symposium. “Like each of you, I know our communities can benefit from strategic development in the mining sector,” Tootoo said, adding that Nunavut needs a balance between resource development and environmental protection. “We have to be smart about it,” he said The symposium gets underway April 5 at 8:30 a.m. with a presentation from commodity price expert Patricia Mohr of Scotiabank.
