Photo: Nunavut’s liquor task force tables report

Police seized these 25 bottles of illegal vodka during a raid in Iqaluit Sept. 30, 2009. (The gun in the foreground was seized in an unrelated incident.) The report of the Nunavut Liquor Act Review Task Force, tabled Nov. 2 in the Nunavut legislature, recommends a variety of measures aimed at “stamping out bootlegging,” including a ban on all alcohol imports from outside Nunavut, the creation of a Nunavut-wide government monopoly for all liquor sales and, where communities approve, retail sales of beer and wine through government-owned outlets, subject to purchase limits.
