Photo: Okpik’s Dream picks up Montreal film award

Okpik’s Dream, the 2014 film made about Quaqtaq musher Harry Okpik, won the Rigoberta Menchu grand prize community award last week at the 25th annual First Peoples Festival in Montreal. The feature-length documentary, made by Laura Rietveld and Katarina Soukup, traces the life and triumphs of Okpik, who lost a leg in a hunting accident as ayouth, but went on to compete in Nunavik’s annual dog sled race, Ivakkak. The film airs again on CBC later this month: Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7:00 pm EST. (PHOTO BY ALEX MARGINEAU)
