Photo: On Toonik Tyme’s 50th, festival founder Bryan Pearson looks back

As Iqaluit’s Toonik Tyme spring festival gets ready to start its 50th anniversary celebrations April 2, festival founder Bryan Pearson displays photos of that day in 1965 when he welcomed former prime minister John Diefenbaker onto the tarmac of Frobisher Bay airport for the first Toonik Tyme festival. Pearson said in a Facebook comment April 1 that he will become this year’s Honorary Toonik, and that he’s honoured to serve in that role.
