Photo: Ottawa Inuit health clinic finally gets its wings

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Ten years after first conceiving of the idea, and four years after it opened under the umbrella of Tungasuvvingat Inuit, Ottawa's Akausivik Inuit Family Health Team clinic is finally an independent and thriving entity. Akausivik's physicians, nurses, case manager-interpreters, medical secretaries, complimentary medicine practitioners, sessional specialists, and administrative staff serve Inuit clients in their language and in a holistic way, as part of Ontario's only Inuit-specific clinic. Some staff posed for a photo Feb. 12. From left: Dennis Nakoolak, Connie Siedule, Aigah Attagutsiak, Cathy Dufour, Emily Aqpik, Dr. Jason Creaghan and Santos Lopez. Read more tomorrow about how it came to be and how staff there are, quite literally, saving lives. (PHOTO BY LISA GREGOIRE)
