With all due respect: Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s incoming president, Natan Obed, recognizes the work of his predecessor, Terry Audla, Sept. 22 in a statement issued to the media. “I would like to thank outgoing ITK President Terry Audla for his leadership over the past three years. His dedication to Inuit representation has been admirable in the face of many challenges,” Obed said in the statement. “I will do my best to build upon Terry’s legacy, and look forward to working with him in the future in our shared goal of advancing Inuit rights.” Audla was elected president of the national Inuit organization in 2012 and served three years until Sept. 17 when Obed was elected to lead ITK at a meeting in Cambridge Bay.
