Photo: Peregrine Diamonds announces high grades at Chidliak

These two octahederal, or eight-sided, diamonds are among those recovered at the Saskatchewan Research Council from a 222.1 dry tonne bulk sample extracted this past summer from Peregrine Diamonds’ Chidliak site about 120 kilometres northeast of Iqaluit, at a kimberlite pipe known as CH-6. In an announcement Dec. 3, Peregrine said they recovered 48 diamonds greater than one carat in size, and 137 diamonds greater than half a carat, and that the recovery process revealed a grade of 2.70 carats per tonne. Peregrine said this confirms that CH-6 may be one of the highest grade kimberlite pipes in the world. The diamond on the right in this photo, the largest of those recovered, weighs in at 3.54 carats.
