Photo: Photo finish: Jake Gearheard crosses Nunavut Quest finish line

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Jake Gearheard is hoisted into the air as he crosses the Nunavut Quest finish line in Arctic Bay, as is the custom for each musher as they complete the 500-km journey from Pond Inlet to Arctic Bay. The 16th annual multi-day event wound down April 27 and Arctic Bay residents gave a warm welcome to all the competitors. The winning team — the one with the shortest combined daily times — will be announced at the race's closing ceremonies tonight, April 28, in Arctic Bay. Andy Attagutalukutuk won last year's race and took home a $15,000 grand prize. (PHOTO BY CLARE KINES)
