Photo: A blustery start to the work week in Iqaluit

Following a blustery morning, as seen in this picture, the City of Iqaluit announced shortly before noon on Monday, Jan. 22 that it would restore city services. The city sent its trucks off the road earlier in the day, as blizzard conditions rocked Nunavut’s capital over the previous night and into the morning. Iqaluit’s schools, which were also closed for the morning, are set to reopen in the afternoon. Still, a blizzard warning remains in effect from Environment Canada until the evening. Sustained winds out of the northwest are blowing at about 50 kilometres per hour, with gusts up to 70 km/h. The high for Jan. 22 will be -22 Celsius, but the wind chill will make it feel more like -40 C. (PHOTO BY STEVE DUCHARME)
