Photo: Physical activity not just for the gymnasium

Arviat Nunavut Teacher Education Program student Maria Illungiayok guides students through the intricacies of the traditional string game. As part of their teacher training, NTEP students in Arviat have been learning that physical activity doesn’t just occur in the classroom. They recently researched and prepared a lesson plan to promote physical activity for Grade 4 and 5 students using traditional games. Levi Angmak Elementary School was closed last week due to teacher professional development days but the principal opened up the school so NTEP students could work with youth as part of their training.
