Photo: Plaskett thrills Iqaluit crowd, heads for Igloolik

East-coast performer Joel Plaskett belts one out to a captive audience at a performance at Joamie School in Iqaluit Oct. 3, the second of two sold-out shows he played in Nunavut’s capital. Plaskett, who has fronted several pull-together bands over the years, came North solo for the Alianait concert series, offering a stripped-down selection of his ample rock and folk repertoire to about 200 fans. The gregarious Maritimer told numerous candid stories between songs and at one point, said his trip to Iqaluit was as humbling as the first time his saw the “big-prairie sky.” Plaskett, who hiked from Iqaluit to Apex along the shoreline, according to his Twitter feed, tweeted photos and thoughts during his visit saying the trip was blowing his mind. The Igloolik battle of the band winner, Josh Haulli, got a chance to open for Plaskett and they now head back to Haulli’s hometown of Igloolik to play a show Oct. 6. (PHOTO BY STEVE DUCHARME)
