“We have come a long way,” says Nunavut premier Eva Aariak Oct. 24 at the annual general meeting of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. in Iqaluit. Her message to the delegates: to not lose sight of Nunavut’s achievements and “keep an eye on things we are doing right so it will be easier to find the solutions to the challenges we still face.” Aariak didn’t play down those challenges which include the need for 90 new social housing units a year, on top of a backlog of 3,000 social housing units, better health care and improvements to the education system.
