Photo: Preparing teachers to be good coaches

Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP) students in Arviat along with practicing teachers and some Grade 12 students, take part in a “practice planning” exercise as part of their coach certification training Feb. 16. The two-day introductory training course, funded through Sport Nunavut, covered a lot of ground related to coaching including ethics, legal issues, planning programs for children and youth and healthy nutrition. For the pre-service teachers, it offered some basic training in preparation for the day when they might run after-school, intramural and extra-curricular or community activities.
