Inuapik Sagiaktok lights the qulliq to launch the Qikiqtani Inuit Association's annual general meeting in Iqaluit Oct. 6, a meeting which also marks the Baffin Inuit organization's 40th anniversary. Delegates from all over Baffin will meet until Oct. 8 to scrutinize the QIA's annual financial statements and annual reports, consider resolutions for the upcoming year, appoint a number of people to various boards and committees and to discuss a couple of special items including the Mary River mine, caribou management and problems with the airline codeshare agreement. In honour of their 40th anniversary, the QIA will also hold a community feast and concert tonight, Oct. 6, at Inuksuk High School, starting at 6 p.m. See Nunatsiaqonline.ca later for coverage of the meetings.
