Okalik Eegeesiak (centre), president of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, heads a special board of directors meeting Sept. 4 at the Parish Hall in Iqaluit, Nunavut, at which the board members will decide to accept or reject an Inuit Impact Benefits Agreement in-Principle and a commercial production lease for Baffinland Iron Mines Corp., the promoter of the Mary River iron mine project in northern Baffin Island. Much of the meeting was initially to have been open to members of media and the public — however, a spokesperson for the QIA later said the meeting was open only to beneficiaries, who are not journalists.
