Photo: Rankin Inlet shines bright like a diamond

That’s not road salt… Dunnedin Ventures released this photo Nov. 23 of diamonds taken from a recent kimberlite bulk sample from its Kahuna project, about 25 kilometres from Rankin Inlet. According to its website, the bulk sample yielded a total of 526 diamonds, 96 of which were above the commercial size of 0.85 millimetres. The largest single diamond crystal recovered — a half centimetre in diametre — was 0.77 carats. “The high sample grade of 6.5 carats per tonne and the project’s location near Rankin Inlet allowed us to cost-effectively recover an impressive number of commercial-sized diamonds from our first sample,” said Dunnedin CEO Chris Taylor, in a Nov. 23 news release. Dunnedin Ventures is a Canadian-based diamond company. It signed an agreement to acquire 100 per cent of the Kahuna Diamond Project in November 2014 but that agreement is still subject to TSX approval. (PHOTO COURTESY DUNNEDIN VENTURES)
