Photo: Remembering Christine Egan on 9/11

Dr. Christine Egan, 55, a nurse who spent many years in Nunavut, died Sept. 11, 2001, while visiting her brother, who was working inside New York City’s World Trade Center. This photo shows Egan in Pond Inlet, one of the communities where she worked in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Today, the Dr. Christine Egan Memorial Scholarship, set up through the University of Manitoba, provides “opportunities for the Inuit of Nunavut to study nursing by providing scholarship support to promising Nunavut nursing students.” In 2012, the recipients of the Dr. Christine Egan Memorial Scholarship for Nunavut nursing students were Nancy Mike and Nicole Wilcox.
