Tanya Tungilik, sitting with her mother, Johanne Autut, holds a plaque she accepted on behalf of her father, the late Marius Tungilik, this week in Rankin Inlet. The inscription reads: “Left behind-Never Again, Honouring those from Rankin Inlet.” The presentation, which recognized the efforts Marius Tungilik made on behalf of Inuit who attended residential schools during the 1950s and 1960s, took place during this past week’s commemoration event in Rankin Inlet, “Left behind-Never Again,” for residential school survivors. The theme: “honouring the children taken and healing and moving forward with those left behind.” Read more about the event later on Nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO COURTESY OF PIITA IRNIQ)
