Here’s a look what you’ll experience when the Jorggáhallan Saami dance group with Elle Sofe Henriksen performs this weekend in Iqaluit for an Alianait arts festival show. “Jorggáhallan is a meeting between old and new movements, personal interpretations, a journey in time and space, and an invitation to sense an experience that vibrates in the tension between a cup of coffee and rousing dance,” says a description of Jorggáhallan, which makes its Canadian debut Sept. 21 in Iqaluit. Tickets for the performances, which start at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Joamie Elementary School, are $22 in advance ($12 for youth, 13 to 18) at Arctic Ventures, and $25 at the door ($15 for youth, 13 to 18). All Alianait shows are free for elders and children under 12 who are under accompanied by an adult. (PHOTO COURTESY OF ALIANAIT)
