Pauyungie, who died last week at 75 years old, is remembered for her contributions to many regional organizations, including its elders’ committee, the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services, and the Initsiak Women’s Center. “Elashuk, with a distinct voice, was a strong Inuk woman; everyone who knew her respected her,” said Kativik Regional Government chair Maggie Emudluk in a release. “She was a humble, humorous, wise individual. Being able to adapt to the ever changing world we live in, she contributed in making Nunavimmiut understand the challenges we face in our lives.
