Jack Anawak, vice president of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., attended the one-day Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s urban Inuit community hearings in Ottawa Aug. 16 with his 15-year-old son Lee Wah-Shee-Anawak. Anawak attributes his lifelong struggle with addictions and risky behaviour to sexual, physical and emotional abuse he says he experienced at the Sir Joseph Bernier residential school in Chesterfield Inlet, which was run by Oblate priests and Grey Nuns.
