Photo: Got the blues? GN launches anti-smoking campaign

Joe Enook, Nunavut MLA for the Tununiq riding, speaks to staff of the Go Blue NU campaign in the lobby of the legislature in Iqaluit May 29. The campaign, supported by the territorial health department, encourages Nunavummiut to have smoke-free homes and vehicles to protect themselves against the harm of second-hand smoke. The GN will be supplying Nunavut residents with blue light bulbs to put in your door front light socket to show your home is smoke-free. “It’s a well-known fact that people who don’t smoke but are subjected to second-hand smoke are at a greater risk of contracting cancers, having breathing problems, and lung and ear infections,” Nunavut’s health minister Paul Okalik said in a news release May 29. For more information, and to get a free blue light bulb, you can go to www.nuquits.ca.
