Photo: Snowshoes and batons — Nunavik athletes compete in Nuuk

Salluit’s Ida Saviakjuk of Team Nunavik-Québec hands off the baton to a waiting Ryan Annanack in the 4 x 400 snowshoe relay at Ravnedalen, March 9, at the Arctic Winter Games in Greenland. The winds have died down in Nuuk and temperatures have moderated, much to the pleasure of athletes competing in outdoor events. So far, Team Alaska is way out ahead in the standings with 108 medals including 38 gold. Yukon and Alberta North are second and third in the standings with 57 and 36 medals respectively. Team Nunavut is in fifth place with 24 medals including three golds in Arctic sports. Team Nunavik-Quebec is eighth out of nine teams, with seven medals including four golds in Arctic sports and Dene games. (PHOTO BY STEVE DUCHARME)
