Photo: Spilled water drains into Frobisher Bay

At about 11:00 a.m. Jan. 13, water continued to drain into Frobisher Bay near Iqaluit’s breakwater. A burst pipe at Inuksuk High School sent more 20 million litres of water cascading into the bay just after midnight Jan. 13, flooding low-lying areas near the beach. Snowmobilers are advised to say away from the breakwater area because of unsafe ice conditions. As of 11:45 a.m., the situation had been brought under control and levels at Iqaluit’s reservoir continue to rise. Mayor Madeleine Redfern said trucked water service will “resume as soon as reasonably possible.” (PHOTO BY DEAN MORRISON)
