Photo: Still cold but getting brighter in Nunavut

Pack ice stands guard under a sun that seems to pause, taking its time to set over Frobisher Bay near Iqaluit Feb. 16. Nunavut’s capital gains six to seven more minutes of sunlight every day this time of year, while temperatures remain in the deep freeze of February: hovering around -40 C with wind chill, according to Environment Canada. Those kinds of temperatures in Ottawa (-38C with wind on Feb. 15) were enough for the Ottawa Citizen to declare their city the coldest national capital on the planet last weekend.
