Photo: Student achievement honoured with kangaroo vest
By NUNATSIAQ NEWS
Check out Lance Akoluk’s new kangaroo skin vest. The Cambridge Bay, Kiilinik High School student received this vest from ‘Uncle’ Bob Carveth June 16 at a year end award ceremony at the school. The Australian philanthropist has sent other gifts from Down Under to Nunavut schools over the past few years, such as table tennis equipment, cameras, computer equipment and model cars. A lover of indigenous culture, it’s his way of supporting Inuit culture and language preservation in the Arctic. The vest was made by Connie Kapolak. Kiilinik student Kailie Atighioyak also got a gift from Carveth — a digital camera — for regular school attendance and displaying a positive attitude throughout the year.
