Photo: Students display hand-made soaps at Kuujjuaq science fair

Visitors to the Quebec Aboriginal Science Fair in Kuujjuaq stop in front of a project from Salluit, called “Faire du savon avec les Inuits” (Making soap with the Inuit). For their project, Secondary 1 students Judith Naluiyuk and Johnny Yuliusie made soap with a base of misiraq (seal or whale oil), with which Inuit used to use to clean themselves in the past. The students also added essential oils such as cranberry, mint and lavender to give it various scents.
