Photo: Taking flight: construction continues at new Iqaluit airport

Construction continues on the Government of Nunavut’s fancy new Iqaluit air terminal, part of the GN’s $418.9-million, 30-year airport deal, which includes extensive runway repaving and a new service building near the RCMP hangar for storing airport maintenance and firefighting vehicles. In their most recent legislative assembly sitting, MLAs voted to dump $77.26 million into the project. A private consortium called Arctic Infrastructure Partners took control of the airport site last July and now runs it through an entity called Nunavut Airport Services Ltd. The work is supposed be done by August-September 2017. (PHOTO BY JIM BELL)
