Better late than never. Team Nunavut arrives at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Arctic Winter Games in Nuuk, Greenland, March 6. While most Nunavut athletes participating in the games arrived in time for the ceremony — which was delayed several hours to accommodate late flights — many others didn’t arrive until after the ceremony had ended. “Everyone is here,” said one AWG spokesperson during the daily press briefing March 7. The final planes delivering athletes to Nuuk arrived shortly before midnight. The so-called “flight bridge” between Iqaluit and Nuuk saw 31 flights arrive over a 12-hour period on Sunday. Heavy snow and wind across the eastern Arctic over the weekend produced a back-up in connecting flights from Iqaluit. (PHOTO ANDRE GUTTESEN)
