Kangiqsujuaq’s Brazilian Drummers, pictured here performing in Iqaluit, will represent Nunavik as part of the region’s cultural contingent to the March 2014 Arctic Winter Games in Fairbanks, Alaska. This past summer, Team Nunavik-Quebec invited Nunavik youth to apply to take part in the Arctic Winter Games’s cultural program. Preparation is also under way for the selection and training of Team Nunavik-Quebec athletes at the AWG. Following coastal trials over the summer, regional trials are scheduled to take place in Kuujjuaq between Nov. 8 and Nov. 11. There have been some changes to the team’s make-up: in 2014, the biathlon-snowshoe event has been replaced by cross country-skiing, and Nunavik will be sending an all-female team from Kuujjuaq.
