Frozen in: The Martin Bergmann, a vessel operated by the Arctic Research Foundation, lists slightly to the port side and frozen in at Cambridge Bay. Named after the late director of the Polar Continental Shelf Project who died in the 2011 Resolute Bay air crash, the ship has overwintered in the bay for three years in a row. The 19-metre ship, formerly a fishing trawler, has a capacity of 12 passengers and crew members, contains a laboratory, winches for lowering scientific equipment into the water and plenty of food and fuel storage space. It has enough power to be self-sufficient for up to three weeks. (PHOTO BY RED SUN PRODUCTIONS)
