Local cadets greet Prime Minister Stephen Harper on his arrival in Rankin Inlet Aug. 21. Inuit leaders from across the Arctic have flown to Rankin Inlet to hold a big meeting with Harper Aug. 22. Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami said leaders will talk to Harper about non-renewable resources and economic development; housing; marine shipping; search and rescue; and skills development and training. Each leader has been assigned a specific topic. Leaders at the meeting include Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami president Terry Audla, Inuit Circumpolar Council-Canada president Duane Smith, Inuvialuit Regional Corp. chair Nellie Cournoyea, Makivik Corp. president Jobie Tukkiapik, Pauktuutit president Rebecca Kudloo, National Inuit Youth Council president Thomas Anguti Johnson, Nunatsiavut government president Sarah Leo, Kivalliq Inuit Association president David Ningeongan, Nunavut premier Eva Aariak and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Cathy Towntongie.
