Photo: This walrus is never late for lunch

This walrus never has to worry about being late for lunch. The charming mural adorns the inside of the Iqaluit soup kitchen. Local artist, Pascale Arpin, was approached by a couple of friends about volunteering her time to help beautify the space and she readily agreed. Using some leftover paint and brushes she had from previous projects, she set to work deciding on an image to paint in September 2015. The clock, she said, helped inspire her to paint a big walrus, using it for an eye. She then donated the brushes and remaining paint so others could paint more murals in that space. The Qayuktuvik Soup Kitchen is a non-denominational program that feeds Iqaluit’s hungry every day at lunch time. You can find them next to the Anglican Church in the same building as the thrift shop.
