Nunavut fur fashion designers and models show off some new creations of sealskin garments at the Toonik Tyme festival’s closing community feast and fashion show in Iqaluit, April 9. Fashion show organizer Meeka Kilabuk, like other presenters and performers at the feast, honoured the memory of Sandy Oolayou, who drowned in a snowmobile accident on sea ice outside Iqaluit, April 6, during the festival’s seal-hunting competition. Festival organizers agreed to carry on with the special event, following the wishes of Oolayou’s family. “We have a heavy heart for the one that just left us, but we’ve got to move on. So I hope we will give you a really nice show,” Kilabuk said. Read more on Nunatsiaqlonline.ca. (PHOTO BY PETER VARGA)
