The scholarship awards, worth $3,000 each, are handed out annually to the top performing students. “I offer my sincere congratulations to the hard-working recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II awards,” said Okalik, in a Feb. 24 news release. “The scholarships and bursaries provided by the Department of Health to nursing and pre-nursing students are part of our commitment to educate and graduate more skilled Nunavummiut heath professionals here in our territory.” This year’s award winners are, from left, Amal Osman, Valerie Young, Mark Bursey, Mishael Gordon and Mavis Ell (absent from photo).
