All Canadians must make a firm and lasting commitment to reconciliation, says a report released this morning on the country’s residential school system. The summary report refers to the system as a form of “cultural genocide” and makes 94 recommendations ” to ensure that Canada is a country where [Indigenous] children and grandchildren can thrive.” The head of the TRC, Justice Murray Sinclair, pictured here in Ottawa, said June 2 that “reconciliation is not an Aboriginal problem. It is a Canadian problem. It involves all of us.” Stay tuned to more coverage of the report and today’s events at Nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO BY JIM BELL)
