Photo: Umiujaq elders celebrate — and are celebrated — on Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Umiujaq elders take a break from activities, including a picnic, scheduled in the Nunavik community on June 15, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Activities included the picnic at the new provincial park near the Richmond Gulf, Parc national Tursujuq, along with games at the community centre, which included ticket draws, bowling, indoor hockey, dice games. In one game, the elders teamed up with youth to see who could collect the most “rabbit poo” — Lizzie Tookalook and Augiak Crow won that competition, local community wellness co-ordinator Lucy Kumarluk told Nunatsiaq News.
