A Vancouver Renewable Energy Co-op solar installer, Duncan Martin, helps unload solar panels on arrival in Clyde River Aug. 15. Martin, along with a number of Greenpeace supporters and some invited Inuit guests including Clyde River Mayor James Qillaq and former mayor Jerry Natanine, journeyed on board the Greenpeace icebreaker Arctic Sunrise from St. John’s, Nfld. to Clyde River to deliver solar panels for installation on Clyde River’s community hall in an effort to promote renewable energy systems in the Arctic. Actor Emma Thompson and her daughter are also in Clyde River this week to support the community’s stand against commercial seismic testing in Baffin Bay and Davis Strait — a fight that will continue at the Supreme Court of Canada in November.
