Photo: Urban Inuit from across Canada gather in Ottawa

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

In an effort to improve the quality of life for Inuit who live in southern cities, Tungasuvvingat Inuit, an Ottawa-based Inuit service provider, is hosting a national meeting in Ottawa this week with Inuit representatives from Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and St. John's. This comes on the heels of a tour that TI executive director, Jason LeBlanc, made this past summer to take stock of program capacity in those cities. The ultimate goal, LeBlanc said, is to increase Inuit participation in the urban economy. That's best accomplished, he believes, by helping local Inuit associations identify what's needed and building those services in areas such as housing, healthcare as well as education and training. Delegates are meeting at the downtown Best Western Hotel Nov. 5 to Nov. 6. Read more about what they discussed, later on nunatsiaqonline.ca. (PHOTO BY JIM BELL)
