Photo: What lies beneath

A Parks Canada archaeologist swims over the bow of HMS Investigator last month. In August, a team captured underwater images and video and other artifacts from the Investigator, one of several Royal Navy vessels sent to search for the two ships used during the failed Arctic expedition of Sr John Franklin. The Investigator was discovered last
summer by Parks Canada at Aulavik National Park in the Northwest Territories, where they returned this summer to make more than 100 dives. The same team also travelled north to Nunavut’s Victoria Strait to continue the search for Franklin’s ships, the Erebus and the Terror, although they came up empty-handed.
