Photo: World Tobacco Day

May 31 is “World No Tobacco Day,” a day when people can put down their cigarettes for 24 hours. The Canadian Community Health Survey found that, in 2006, 53 per cent of Nunavummiut smoked. Today, the percentage has risen to above 60 per cent. In Nunavik, that rate is just as high. Among the activities planned in Nunavut for “World No Tobacco Day” — a free breakfast served June 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Iqaluit’s Anglican parish hall. (PHOTO BY JANE GEORGE)
