“You can’t be human all by yourself,” said Kabelo Mokoena, organizer of an Ubuntu celebration held in Iqaluit, Feb. 3, to kick off Black History Month. “Ubuntu embodies all the virtues that society strives for … towards harmony and the spirit of sharing,” he said. The gathering, hosted at St. Jude’s Anglican Cathedral, saw performances by the Inuksuk High School choir, band and drum dancers, the singing of the Nigerian national anthem and traditional songs by an African ensemble who are pictured here.
