Paul Quassa, minister of education for Nunavut, with premier Peter Taptuna, seated, at Aqsarniit Middle School in Iqaluit March 21, describes updates to Nunavut’s education curriculum for the next school year. Schools across the territory will update course content in literacy, math and science, complete with new assessment standards, starting with kindergarten to Grade 4 for the year 2014-2015, Quassa announced. The same changes will come to Grades 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 in following years. The government is “adapting and adopting course material from the Northwest Territories and Alberta for Nunavut in areas of math, science and English language arts,” the minister said.
