Nunavut Cabinet Minister Paul Quassa and former Indian Affairs Minister Tom Siddon — two men who both have their signatures on the 1993 Nunavut Land Claims Agreement — reunite at Inuksuk High School in Iqaluit, 22 years after the agreement was signed in 1993. On his return to Iqaluit for Nunavut Day, July 9, Siddon brought with him a carving, done by Jake Kadluk of Igloolik, representing a man cutting snow blocks for an iglu, a gift given to Siddon for the part he played in helping to negotiate the land claim agreement. “To the people of Nunavut… it’s symbolic. That’s why we decided it was time to bring it back home,” Siddon told Nunatsiaq News. (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
